Felipe Pires, a patient with SCA2 ataxia, is the first person with ataxia to take first place in a jiu-jitsu world championship, and likely in any sport. The feat took place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Congratulations, Felipe! May your brilliant performance serve as an encouragement to ataxics to overcome the limitations of their body and mind. As the wise "Frederica" Nadia Fernandes says, "May we never lack the courage to distinguish and understand our real limits, those we create for ourselves and those others create for us."
