Neurologists and physical therapists are referred by ataxia patients who are members of Abahe. Abahe has no commercial ties to any of the individuals (CPF) or institutions (CNPJ) referred. In addition to university hospitals with ataxia outpatient clinics, some Brazilian cities have CERs (Specialized Rehabilitation Centers) offering physical therapy services, and others providing care through the SUS (Brazilian Unified Health System).

SPECIALIZED REHABILITATION CENTERS (CER) - SERVICE BY SUS
Units in several states, in different municipalities.
OC ER is a network with several units throughout Brazil, offering rehabilitation services, diagnosis, treatment, concession, adaptation and maintenance of assistive technology, etc.
There are three CER categories – II, III and IV, numbers that correspond to the number of rehabilitation modalities offered (physical, intellectual and autism , visual, auditory).
CER composed of two qualified rehabilitation services - CER II;
CER composed of three qualified rehabilitation services - CER III;
CER composed of four or more enabled rehabilitation services - CER IV.
The CER serves patients with physical, hearing, and intellectual disabilities. The Center's multidisciplinary team includes a geneticist, an otolaryngologist, an orthopedist, a pediatric neurologist, and psychologists, educators, and psychopedagogists. Occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, physical education, social work, and nursing services are also available.
The CER provides medical transportation using adapted vehicles to ensure access for people with disabilities to the Network's care points. It can be used by people with disabilities who lack mobility and independent access to conventional transportation or who have significant restrictions on accessing and using urban facilities.
Access to the service is through a referral from a Basic Health Unit (UBS) once the individual receives a diagnosis. Care should be provided at the CER closest to the user's residence. To obtain care, contact the Health Department in your municipality. In some cases, you will need to request a referral from your doctor, but the rules vary by city.
